"Mom, when's he gonna open his eyes already?" moaned a cat. "When he wants to, Soulkit." replied a smooth, sweet voice. "Mom! Make him open them! Now!" A different voice cut in. "Did I make you open your eyes?" She asked quietly. "Now go outside and play. Let your brother rest in peace." Exactly. Thought Spiderkit. Go outside and play. I'll open my eyes when I feel like it. Days passed, and Spiderkit finally opened his eyes. How long had it been? A moon? More? Spiderkit had no idea, only that his brothers were playing outside and that his mother, Feathertail, was very proud he had finally opened his eyes. Spiderkit looked up at Feathertail. He spoke his first words, and was surprised on how different his voice was from Feathtail's, Soulkit's, and Rainkit's. His voice as more high pitched. "Can I go outside and play, mommy?" asked Spiderkit. Feathertail nodded. "Of course you can. Just be patient with your brothers. They're a little.... hyper." Spiderkit nodded and hurried outside. "Hey look!" Soulkit purred, padding over to Spiderkit. Spiderkit was amazed out how big his brothers were! They were towering over him, huge. Either that or Spiderkit was very small. "The squirt finally opened his eyes!" Rainkit meowed, eyes flickering over to the Nursery. Feathertail was talking with another queen, her back to the kits. "Let's play a game." meowed Soulkit, stalking Spiderkit in circles. "Ooh, what game is it?" asked Spiderkit, waving his tiny stub of a tail. Rainkit pressed his muzzle into Spiderkit's face. "It's called 'Who Can Bleed First'." Spiderkit fell over and staggered up. "I... I don't really want to play that game." stammered Spiderkit. "It... It sounds dangerous." Soulkit shook his head. "Just watch us, little brother." He purred, getting in a fighting stance across from Rainkit. Suddenly, they leaped together. Spiderkit cried out and fell over backwards, scrambling away as Rainkit and Soulkit fought, their claws unsheathed, clawing and biting at each other. Soulkit pinned Rainkit down and tried to claw at his throat, but Rainkit threw him backwards and clawed at Soulkit's underbelly until drops of blood came out. Then, they relaxed as Soulkit licked the blood. "Nice one, Rain!" he laughed. Rainkit purred in amusement. "I almost had you!" "Yeah, right!" retorted Rainkit, padding over to Spiderkit. "So, you ready to play?" asked Soulkit, getting up. Spiderkit shook his head, his green eyes darting to Feathertail. She was still not watching them. "You can go against both of us." Soulkit purred, waving his tail. "If you want to be a warrior." Spiderkit nodded. He did want to be a warrior, he really did! The best warrior there ever was! Suddenly, Soulkit leaped at him, disturbing his thoughts. Rainkit and Soulkit clawed at him. Spiderkit cried out as blood was drawn, but they didn't stop. Spiderkit tried to run, but Soulkit dug his teeth into Spiderkit's hind leg and pulled, ripping off a chunk of fur. Spiderkit screamed and he fell over, beginning to bleed terribly. Soulkit and Rainkit sat side by side and laughed until Feathertail came over with the WindClan Medicine Cat. Rainkit and Soulkit told Feathertail repeatedly that it was an accident and she bought it. But Spiderkit, so young and so kind, had another thought in mind. Revenge.
Moons had passed. Spiderpaw now, still limped on his hind leg. Soulpaw and Rainpaw were also apprentices as well. Feathertail had retired to the elders den, while Spiderpaw waited. Weeks passed, and he waited patiently for the day to come when he could finally rid himself of the evils that lurked in the camp he needed to call his kin. Finally, that day came. Rain poured down for a week, never stopping once to let the sun come out. Spiderpaw watched every night from his den as the camp welled with rain. The moor would be filled with rain as well. Soon, his plan would unfold. Soon... Finally, it stopped raining. Spiderpaw walked over to Soulpaw and Rainpaw, who were talking to their mates, Shrewpaw and Briarpaw. Yes, Soulpaw and Rainpaw had mates, even though they were still apprentices. "Hi, Soulpaw. Hi Rainpaw!" Spiderpaw meowed cheerfully. Shrewpaw and Briarpaw looked at Spiderpaw as though they were looking at a moldy mouse. Then, they padded away. "What are you doing?" spat Soulpaw. "I uh... I was wondering if you wanted to go hunting?" Spiderpaw asked uncertainly. Soulpaw and Rainpaw agreed and followed Spiderpaw into the moor. Spiderpaw dove into the wet weeds, and his brothers continued on, talking to each other. Spiderpaw waited until he heard a splash. Spiderpaw leaped out of his hiding spot to see Soulpaw and Rainpaw up to their necks in cold water. They thrashed repeatedly and tried to breath as much as they could. "Spiderpaw!" choked Rainpaw. "Help us, please!" Spiderpaw shook his head and sat down calmly. His green eyes narrowed, and for once, Soulpaw and Rainpaw did not see their small, helpless little brother named Spiderpaw, who was a baby and needed help for everything and didn't know how to hunt or fight or do anything in life. Instead... Soulpaw and Rainpaw saw pure evil vibrating from Spiderpaw's black fur. What had they done? Because of their selfishness and fierceness, they had changed sweet little Spiderpaw into something so evil no cat could contain him. "You tried to murder me, and you did not succeed." growled Spiderpaw. His voice was deeper, not that high pitched squeal Soulpaw and Rainpaw knew of. They thrashed wildly in the water, sliding deeper and deeper into it. "Now, I am trying to murder you, and I am succeeding." Rainpaw went under. Bubbles floated up to the surface of the dirty water and then popped. Soulpaw sunk his claws into some marsh, and looked down into the black water. "Rainpaw!" Soulpaw moaned, clawing for a grip on the marsh, unable to pull himself out of the water. "Rainpaw!" Spiderpaw purred and leaped onto the chunk of marsh that Soulpaw clung from. He was still struggling, but stopped when he saw his brother approach. Soulpaw's eyes widened as Spiderpaw stood on Soulpaw's paws. "P-P-Please." stammered Soulpaw. "Have mercy, brother! I am deeply sorry for what I did to you! Please do not kill me!" Spiderpaw shook his head. "It's too late for 'sorry', Soulpaw. Now you must face the consequences that you have laid upon yourself. Spiderpaw got off of Soulpaw's paws and put a single paw between Soulpaw's ears. Then, he pushed Soulpaw into the water. With a short cry, Soulpaw vanished underwater. Spiderpaw waited a moment, and when neither of his brothers resurfaced, Spiderpaw padded back to camp, with the excuse that his brothers had fallen into the water. And thus, Spiderclaw's reign began.
