Apprentice Ceremony

[Hailkit]

Hailkit sat at the base of the special tree. Ghoststar sat upon the branch where he called Clan meetings. "Today, something special is going to happen!" Ghoststar yowled as his Clan made themselves comfortable beneath the tree. "We have a new apprentice. Hailkit, would you please step forward?" Hailkit calmly walked over to the roots of the tree and began her climb. Like she said before, Hailkit studied apprentices and warriors, knowing every boundary and knowing every hunting crouch, every fighting stance, without even leaving the camp; while the other kits played obnoctiously around the Nursery. At night, Hailkit practiced the hunting moves, the fighting swipes. She also practiced climbing up the tree so she wouldn't look like an idiot when she was made an apprentice. In which so, it did pay off. Hailkit swiftly climbed up the tree. She padded over to Blackstar and sat down beside him. If Hailkit hadn't done all that practicing, she would've looked down from the tree and gotten scared to death. But since she had done it so many times, it was actually quite comfortable. "This is a proud day for ShadowClan, by naming apprentices we show that ShadowClan will survive and remain strong. Hailkit, from now on until you receive your Medicine Cat name you will be known as Hailpaw."
Ghoststar continued, "Spottedstorm, you are ready for an apprentice, you will be Hailpaw's mentor. I know you will pass on your wisdom and knowing of herbs to Hailpaw, and teach her the skills that will make her a great Medicine Cat of ShadowClan." Hailpaw purred as Ghoststar licked Hailpaw between her ears. She then turned towards Spottedstorm and waited for the she-cat to come up and touch noses with her, to purify her apprentice ceremony.

A tortoiseshell she-cat approached the meeting knowing what was to happen. Hailkit had been accepted by Starclan the pervious night when Specklepelt her mentor had come to her and spoke to her about the young kit. Spottedstorm took in a deep breath as the announcement was made. Closing her eyes she remembered the day she was made a medicine cat apprentice. It had been the best day on her life. But truth was she had gone and asked Specklepelt and was accepted but her mentor the day before Starclan accepted her. The she-cat couldn’t help but smile even the slightest. She then stepped forward and touched noses with her new apprentice. “You shall move into my den to night and we begin training tomorrow. Understood?” She then told the young kit.

Ghoststar nodded her approval as she watched the two converse and then jumped down from the rock. Blue eyes gazed onward toward the goatherd group and exhausted for the day she made her way over to the fresh kill pile. Picking up a good size mouse she padded off toward her den.

"Understood. I'll go and collect some moss now." purred Hailpaw, touching noses with her new mentor. She easily leaped down the tree and trotted out of camp, flicking her tail.
